Launches electronic voting app for parties and parliaments

January 1, 2020: After more than three years of research and development, the Swedish Foundation for Digital Democracy, iGov.Direct, has launched its system for electronic voting. The iOS and Android apps are part of the Foundation’s vision for a trusted electronic voting system based on requiring electronic identification and open auditable voting.

The system is a public service research project led by the politically independent nonprofit foundation. The system can be licensed by city-councils, political parties and parliaments.

The non-profit and non-political iGov.Direct Foundation's goal is to, with the help of researchers and specialists, build an auditable system for digital democracy to prevent corruption and authoritarian governance.MISSION STATEMENT, iGov.Direct Foundation

electronic voting app

The app scans the datachip of the passport

"Advanced electronic voting systems are already in use in Moscow, Switzerland and Estonia. iGov.Direct aims to increase the trust of electronic voting by not allowing anonymity and verifies ID using the ICAO international standard for electronic identification. The data chip in a Passport or ID card is scanned by the iGov.Direct app and the voting results are, when required, protected by bitcoin blockchain technology, says founder Christian Paulsen"

Board member Elin Wibell says that a fact based, respectful dialogue is the way to have a less politically polarised policy discussion.

"iGov.Direct is based on discussion using verifiable facts, with all users being equal, ends board member Elin Wibell"
